*🇳🇦🔥 Namibia to Hold First National Genocide Remembrance Day 🕯️🕊️*
This week, *🇳🇦 Namibia will officially remember the victims of one of Africa’s darkest chapters* — the *genocide carried out by German colonial forces* 🪖💔.
From 1904 to 1908, over 💀 80,000 Herero and Nama people were brutally killed after rising up against German rule. *This is known as the first genocide of the 20th century 🕳️⚰️.*
At that time, Namibia was called German South West Africa 🇩🇪📜 — part of Germany’s African colonies, including present-day Togo 🇹🇬, Cameroon 🇨🇲, Tanzania 🇹🇿, Burundi 🇧🇮, and Rwanda 🇷🇼.
*📅 The Genocide Remembrance Day will take place in the gardens of Namibia’s parliament* 🌿🏛️. The event will include a candlelight vigil 🕯️, a minute of silence ⏱️, and a moment to reflect and honour the ancestors 🫶🏾🕊️. 🙏🏾 https://rfi.my/BhhE.w #namibiaremembers #hereroandnama #africanhistorymatters
