Over the past three years, Taloqan, the capital of Takhar province, has witnessed a surge in the construction of residential properties and commercial high-rise buildings. This growth has primarily occurred across various parts of Taloqan, driven largely by wealthy individuals, local traders, and, in some cases, traders from Kabul, Balkh, and Badakhshan provinces.
Officials overseeing these residential and commercial high-rise projects in Takhar state that investments in construction have transformed the city’s landscape and significantly increased land and property prices. According to them, after the construction of residential properties and commercial high-rises gained momentum in Takhar, the Taliban halted these projects in Taloqan without providing any explanation.
Mohammad (pseudonym), an investor in commercial high-rise construction, told the Hasht-e Subh Daily that the Taliban’s decision was made without clear justification, causing confusion among investors, property owners, and the Taliban themselves.
