NCIAVHR Chairman and Aden Governor Unite to Advance Human Rights and Prison Reform

Today, the Chairman of the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) met with the Minister of State and Governor of the interim capital, Aden, Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, to discuss a range of human rights issues, including the conditions of prisons and detainees in the city.
At the outset of the meeting, Judge Ahmed Saeed Al-Maflihi, the Commission Chairman, presented the key findings from recent investigations conducted by the Commission. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to monitor the situation of detainees and assess the extent to which security authorities comply with legal procedures.
The meeting, which was attended by Aden’s Chief of Police, Major General Mutahar Al-Shuaibi, focused on the status of inmates in Mansoura Central Prison and individuals held in temporary detention centers. Discussions also explored ways to strengthen coordination with local authorities and security bodies to protect human rights.
Judge Al-Maflihi emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with official institutions in the capital to safeguard the legal and human rights of prisoners and detainees. He commended the responsiveness of local authorities and the cooperation of security agencies with the Commission’s work.
For his part, Governor Lamlas reaffirmed the full support of the local government for the National Commission’s efforts and expressed its readiness to facilitate the Commission’s tasks and help overcome any obstacles it might face in the field.
Major General Al-Shuaibi also reiterated the commitment of Aden’s security forces to uphold the rule of law and ensure the dignity and rights of citizens during arrest and detention procedures. He stressed that protecting human rights is a core principle in the work of law enforcement personnel.
