Monsoon Session of Parliament to be convened from 21st of next month. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the session will conclude on 12th August. 2. PM Modi chaired the meeting of the Union Council of Ministers in New Delhi yesterday. 3. The Government has decided to conduct the Population Census – 2027 in two phases, along with the enumeration of castes. *The first phase will be conducted in hilly and snow-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Ladakh beginning 1st of October, 2026. The second phase covering other parts of the country will be held from 1st of March 2027. The last census was conducted in 2011. 4. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare is conducting the 13th Pension Adalat, under the chairmanship of Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The theme of Pension Adalat is ‘Family Pension’, which aims to resolve 417 grievances related to family pension matters pertaining to 17 Departments and Ministries. These include the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare and the Department of Financial Services. 5. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to set up a Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AI-CoE). The new centre will focus on developing cutting-edge AI-driven solutions aimed at strengthening key national health programmes across India. 6. President Droupadi Murmu has promulgated The Ladakh Official Languages Regulation 2025, and this regulation has extended to the entire Union Territory. The Ministry of Law and Justice notified this regulation yesterday and recognised English, Hindi, Urdu, Bhoti and Purgi as official languages to be used for all or any of the official purposes of the Union Territory. 7. Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar chaired the 4th meeting of the National Council for Senior Citizens in New Delhi yesterday. 8. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath chaired a meeting with the members of the 16th Central Finance Commission. CM Yogi highlighted the achievements of UP governments and informed about the expectations of the state. Maharashtra’s state government has hiked the emoluments paid to beggars housed in state-run beggars’ homes — from a paltry ₹5 per month to ₹40 per day. This long-overdue raise may partly explain why these 14 beggars’ homes now house just 350 inmates against a total capacity of over 4,000. According to the rules under the Mumbai Prohibition of Begging Act, 1959, any physically fit beggar is required to perform an eight-hour workday in these homes as part of their rehabilitation. For decades, the compensation for this labour remained unchanged — ₹5 per month — until the state cabinet finally decided to revise it to ₹40 per day in late April. The new rate is expected to come into effect soon after an official notification is issued. --------------------------------------- *LEGAL REPORT* --------------------------------------- 1.
