🎀 *The Virtue of Maintaining Ties of Kinship!* One of the virtues of ʿEid is maintaining the ties of kinship; and maintaining these ties increases one’s lifespan and wealth. On the authority of Anas ibn Mālik (may Allāh be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said: “Whoever would love for his provision to be expanded and his lifespan to be extended, let him maintain the ties of kinship.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 2557) ✍️ *Imām Ṣāleḥ al-Fawzān (may Allāh preserve him) said:* Its meaning is that Allāh, the Most High, has promised the one who maintains his kinship that He will reward him by lengthening his life and increasing his provision, as a recompense for his kindness. There is no contradiction between this ḥadīth and the ḥadīth which states that every person’s lifespan and provision are already decreed while he is in his mother’s womb — because there are causes which Allāh has established as means for increased lifespan and provision. This ḥadīth indicates that kindness and maintaining ties of kinship are among those causes. And it is Allāh, Glorified and Exalted be He, who decrees all things and brings about the means. There are matters which Allāh has decreed alongside specific causes He has connected them to, and He has made their occurrence conditional upon those causes being properly fulfilled and free of any preventions. When this occurs, the result follows by Allāh’s decree, preordainment, and as a reward from Him, the Exalted. 🔗 al-Muntaqā min Fatāwā al-Fawzān, 1/98 ✍️ *Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allāh have mercy on him) said:* A people may maintain ties with one another even while being wicked, and as a result, their wealth increases and their numbers grow.
