BUSINESS NEWS | GHANA AND BEYOND 🌍 12/06/2025 🚩Ghana’s economy posted a year-on-year growth of 5.3% in the first quarter of 2025, outpacing the 4.9% expansion recorded in the same period last year, according to provisional data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). Excluding oil, non-oil GDP growth reached 6.8%, underscoring the resilience of the broader economy despite subdued performance in the extractives sector. Growth was led by a strong showing in the Services sector, particularly in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and a recovery in Agriculture, which had previously been weighed down by adverse weather and supply chain disruptions. 🚩Heightened trade tensions and policy uncertainty are expected to drive global growth down this year to its slowest pace since 2008 outside of outright global recessions, according to the World Bank’s latest Global Economic Prospects report. Global growth is projected to slow to 2.3 percent in 2025, nearly half a percentage point lower than the rate that had been expected at the start of the year. A global recession is not expected. Nevertheless, if forecasts for the next two years materialize, average global growth in the first seven years of the 2020s will be the slowest of any decade since the 1960s. 🚩The Government of Ghana is poised to declare the ports of Tema and Takoradi as 24-hour operational zones as part of a broader national strategy to stimulate economic activity through continuous production and trade. The announcement comes ahead of the official rollout of the country’s 24-hour economy policy, slated for July 1, 2025.
