Don’t call me Honourable, give that title to teachers – Kwame Pianim declares
Respected economist and statesman Kwame Pianim sparked a thoughtful moment when the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) paid a courtesy call on President John Mahama — and he didn’t hold back.
Rejecting the common political title, Pianim stated boldly:
“The word ‘honourable’ is normally used for MPs and ministers to remind them to be honourable. That’s why I don’t accept ‘honourable’.”
But he wasn’t just being cheeky. His message had a powerful undertone.
Pianim used the moment to shine a deserving spotlight on Ghana’s educators, saying teachers—not politicians—should be the ones honoured.
According to him, they’re the backbone of every profession and the real nation builders.
