Here are *Grade 7 simplified notes* on the *Colonisation of Zimbabwe*: --- *✳️ What is Colonisation?* Colonisation is when a foreign country takes control of another country or land, often by force, and rules it. --- *📍 When Was Zimbabwe Colonised?* Zimbabwe was colonised in *1890* by the *British South Africa Company (BSAC)* led by *Cecil John Rhodes*. --- *🚩 How Did It Happen?* - Cecil John Rhodes sent a group called the *Pioneer Column* in 1890. - They used the *Rudd Concession* (a fake agreement) to claim land and mining rights. - The British flag was raised in *Harare (then Fort Salisbury)*. --- *💣 Resistance to Colonisation* - *Ndebele and Shona people resisted* in the *First Chimurenga (1896–1897)*. - Leaders like *Lobengula*, *Mzilikazi*, *Nehanda*, and *Kaguvi* fought back. - The British used guns and defeated them. --- *📌 Effects of Colonisation* *Negative:* - Land was taken from Africans - Forced labour and taxes - Traditional leaders lost power - Africans had to follow colonial laws *Positive (few):* - Roads and railways were built - Schools and clinics were introduced (mainly for whites) --- *🎯 Why Is This Topic Important?* - It helps us understand our history - - It teaches us about freedom, justice, and the cost of independence - It reminds us to value our heritage and leaders -
