Here are the *main causes of the First Chimurenga (1896–1897)* in Zimbabwe, suitable for Grade 6/7:

3. *High Taxes* – Hut tax and other unfair taxes were introduced.

5. *Loss of Freedom* – Traditional leaders lost power and African customs were ignored.
6. *Destruction of Culture* – Missionaries and settlers tried to replace African beliefs.
7. *Spiritual Beliefs* – Spirit mediums like Mbuya Nehanda and Sekuru Kaguvi encouraged people to fight back.
8. *Greed for Minerals* – The British South Africa Company wanted gold and minerals, not caring about African lives.
9. *Harsh Laws* – The colonial government passed laws that oppressed Africans.
