Heavy rains and flooding in India claim 34 lives Indian authorities reported on Monday that 34 individuals have lost their lives due to floods and landslides triggered by intense rains in northeastern India in the past four days. According to Reuters news agency, Indian officials stated that over a thousand tourists were marooned in the state of Sikkim, initiating rescue and evacuation operations. The India Meteorological Department, as cited by Reuters, forecasted further heavy rainfall in the region. Conversely, Bangladesh, a neighboring country, also experienced flooding due to rainfall, leading to the death of four members of a family in a landslide. Authorities in Bangladesh have cautioned residents about the potential for additional landslides and flash floods. It is important to highlight that both India and Bangladesh confront annual challenges posed by heavy rains and floods, resulting in substantial damages alongside human casualties and impacting millions of individuals.
