Islam Emerges as the World's Quickest Growing Religion, What's the Current Follower Count? A recent study has unveiled that Islam experienced the fastest growth rate globally between 2010 and 2020, primarily attributed to the higher birth rates among Muslims compared to adherents of other faiths. According to the Pew Research Center's findings, Muslims now constitute 25.6 percent of the global population, standing as the second most populous religious group after Christians, who account for 28.8 percent of the world's populace. Despite Christians retaining the top spot in terms of numerical strength, the research indicates a decline in the global percentage of Christians due to reasons such as aging populations, low birth rates, and significant conversions away from the faith during the period. The study highlights a 2 percent annual increase in the Muslim population growth rate, the highest among all religions, attributed to a rise in young Muslims and birth rates. Based on over 2,700 surveys across 201 countries and territories, the study underscores Christianity as the largest religion by followers, with a global percentage drop from 30.6 in 2010 to 28.8 presently, mainly due to followers leaving the faith. Furthermore, the study notes a rising trend in the number of individuals globally who either lack religious affiliation or information, not necessarily identifying as atheists but having little or no engagement with religion. Buddhists showed the most significant decline, Hindus remained stable, and Jews exhibited a growth rate below the global average at 0.2%. It is noteworthy that Islam, upon its establishment, superseded previous divine religions, inviting all humanity to embrace the final prophet. While followers of Christianity and Judaism persist, their current interpretations have been significantly altered, leading many to convert to Islam, as evidenced by conversion narratives.
