An Air India passenger jet bound for London crashed in the city of Ahmedabad on Thursday, according to the airline and Indian officials. In a statement, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Air India said that Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to the United Kingdom was involved in a “tragic accident.”
The Associated Press reported that there were 232 passengers and 12 crew members aboard, citing Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of India’s directorate of civil aviation.
