Vacancy Announcement Job Title: Environmental Project Manager – Sustainable Water and Soil Management Location: Qamishli, Hasakah Governorate, Syria Type: Full-Time Reports to: Center Director Project Duration: 8 Months Number of opening: 1 Closing Date: 20/6/2025 Job Purpose: The Environmental Project Manager will be responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and execution of a comprehensive environmental sustainability project in Tal Hamis, Hasakah Governorate. The manager will oversee five interlinked activities focused on soil health, sustainable water management, community capacity building, and knowledge sharing. The role requires strong technical expertise, excellent project management skills, and the ability to engage diverse community stakeholders in a participatory manner. Key Responsibilities: Project Leadership and Oversight ● Lead the implementation of all project components, ensuring that activities are delivered on time, within scope, and in accordance with organizational quality standards. ● Coordinate all phases of the project lifecycle including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. ● Provide day-to-day management of the project team, consultants, and field staff, ensuring seamless coordination and accountability. Technical Oversight ● Oversee and validate soil testing activities and ensure the integration of findings into tailored training content. ● Guide the development and delivery of awareness sessions on soil health, water management, and rainwater harvesting. ● Supervise the formation, training, and empowerment of environmental committees. ● Ensure scientific and technical accuracy in training materials, reports, and guidance documents. ● Support the design, monitoring, and evaluation of local water management initiatives. Stakeholder Engagement & Participatory Approaches ● Facilitate inclusive engagement with community members, local authorities, and tribal leaders to ensure buy-in and cultural sensitivity. ● Promote gender equity and the active participation of women in committees, workshops, and community meetings. ● Foster strong working relationships with beneficiaries, ensuring feedback loops and community ownership. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting ● Develop and maintain project tracking tools to monitor progress across all activities and indicators. ● Oversee the production of high-quality outputs, including soil analysis reports, awareness session summaries, environmental committee documentation, technical support reports, and assessment studies. ● Organize and lead annual meetings for experience sharing among farmers, ensuring knowledge capture and dissemination. ● Contribute to the development of final project reports, impact evaluations, and success stories. Resource and Budget Management ● Manage project budgets in collaboration with the finance team to ensure efficient and transparent use of resources. ● Procure technical materials, training tools, and equipment needed for implementation in compliance with procurement policies. Qualifications and Experience: ● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Water Resources, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. ● Experience: Minimum of 3 years of project management experience in sustainable agriculture, environmental management, or rural development, ideally in conflict-affected or fragile contexts. ● Strong technical knowledge of soil health, rainwater harvesting, and water management systems. ● Demonstrated experience working with rural or agricultural communities and facilitating participatory processes. ● Proven track record of managing multi-component projects with diverse stakeholders. Skills and Competencies: ● Excellent project planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills. ● Strong leadership and interpersonal communication abilities. ● Proficiency in monitoring and evaluation tools and methods. ● Familiarity with local context in northeast Syria, including tribal dynamics and agricultural practices, is an asset. ● Strong writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise reports and technical documents. ● Fluency in English is required; writing, speaking.
