Out of the total 60 MLA seats in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the BJP Manipur holds 37 seats, making it an absolute majority. However, seven of these BJP MLAs, belonging to non-Naga tribal communities, are currently demanding a separate administration or union territory, effectively distancing themselves from the state government. The remaining 30 BJP MLAs are from the Meitei and Naga communities.
Excluding the resigned Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and the current Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, 28 BJP MLAs from the Meitei and Naga groups were scheduled to meet today to demonstrate unity and present a collective voice before the central BJP leadership, urging them to elect a new leader of the legislative party, aka chief minister, at the earliest for the formation of a popular government.
Three BJP MLAs, viz. RK Imo Singh, Th. Basantakumar Singh and Ashab Uddin were absent from the meeting in today's meeting of the BJP MLAs at MLA Biswajit Thongam's residence this evening.
In light of this situation, will the central BJP leadership take decisive action to resolve the leadership vacuum and safeguard the popular mandate in Manipur?
Or,
Will BJP central leadership risk further weakening the state’s already fragile political landscape by delaying the formation of a popular government, keeping in view the prevailing law and order problem through which the state has been under President's Rule with suspended animation for the last three months?
