*DGCA Orders Probe of Air India’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner Fleet Following Ahmedabad Crash*
Following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, on June 12, 2025, in Ahmedabad, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has mandated enhanced safety inspections and additional maintenance checks on Air India’s entire Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet.
The aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, resulting in 241 fatalities and one survivor. The DGCA’s directive includes scrutiny of hydraulic systems, fuel parameter monitoring, and cabin air compressor inspections, effective from June 15, 2025.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is probing the incident, with the black box recovered to determine the cause, which experts suggest may involve thrust or engine failure.
Boeing and international teams from the U.K. and U.S. are supporting the investigation, while Air India has been instructed to coordinate with DGCA regional offices for compliance.
