The Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at Hochschule Esslingen -University of Applied Sciences invites applications for a fully funded PhD research position within the DFG-funded project Smart Factory Grids under my direct supervision. 📍 Start Date: October 1, 2025 📍 Location: Esslingen, Germany 📍 Contract: Full-time, E13, limited to 3 years Your research focus: You will work on collaborative autonomous mobile robots, with a focus on behavior and action planning. The goal is to leverage imitation learning and zero-shot learning to enable robots to generalize learned behaviors across new tasks and environments. The developed methods will be validated both in simulation and real robotic platforms within our Smart Factory testbed. As part of a larger interdisciplinary research team (computer science + mechanical engineering), you will collaborate closely with other PhD students working across robotics, AI, and smart manufacturing systems. Your profile: ✔️ Very good MSc degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or similar ✔️ Background in robotics, applied machine learning, and sensor data processing ✔️ Strong programming skills in C++ and Python; experience with PyTorch, ROS2, Linux ✔️ High research motivation, personal initiative, and strong analytical skills ✔️ Excellent English language skills; knowledge of German is a plus 📩 Interested?
