The 1,639-metre-high Kelimutu volcano, which inspired the Lobortas artists when designing the ring, is located on the Indonesian island of Flores. It is famous for its crater lakes, which change colour every few years. The Kelimutu Volcano Lakes form part of Kelimutu National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
