→ Top corporates including Reliance, Adani, Vedanta, Greenko, and Indian Railways have responded to NPCIL’s RFP for setting up 220-MWe Bharat Small Reactors (BSRs) for captive use.
→ The initiative aims to support India’s net-zero 2070 target, with a goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, up from the current 8.78 GW.
→ While private firms will fund and own the reactors, NPCIL will operate them for a fee, targeting at least 5 indigenous small modular reactors (SMRs) to be functional by 2033.
