Position youth as active contributors to Zimbabwe’s climate goals
On the second day of the Youth Climate Finance Training programme, held under the theme “Invest in youth, save our future,” facilitators focused on practical skills for developing bankable climate projects. These are initiatives considered viable for funding due to their alignment with national policies and clear implementation frameworks.
The Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) led sessions aimed at helping participants understand how to structure projects that meet the criteria of potential donors and investors.
Participants were encouraged to align their proposals with Zimbabwe’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), and Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS). The NDC 3.0 includes a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% per capita by 2035.
In addition to addressing climate challenges, participants were advised to integrate co-benefits such as gender equality, youth empowerment, food security and improved livelihoods, which can enhance the appeal of their proposals to funders.
