Zimbabwe’s Falcon College taps solar power in green energy partnership with Cicada Africa Zimbabwe-based renewable energy company Cicada Africa, through Cicada solar has commissioned a 1 megawatt (MW) solar power plant at Falcon College, in a move aimed at boosting energy security and advancing clean energy adoption in the country’s education sector. The solar plant is expected to provide a stable and cost-effective electricity supply to the private boarding school, powering its classrooms, dormitories and sports facilities. The project aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader efforts to reduce dependence on the national grid and transition toward more sustainable energy sources amid ongoing power shortages. Cicada Solar financed the construction of the facility and will be responsible for its ongoing operation and maintenance, marking the beginning of a long-term partnership with the college. "Cicada Solar is proud to announce the commissioning of a 1MW solar plant at Falcon College. This plant will ensure that Falcon has plenty of reliable cost-effective power for its thriving classrooms, dormitories and sports fields, as the College grows from strength to strength. #cicada Solar has also financed and will operate and maintain the solar plant, so our partnership with Falcon has just begun." The installation is expected to cut the school’s reliance on diesel generators and reduce its carbon footprint, contributing to national and global goals on climate action.
