The video below captures recent algae growth at our Juno Beach site—an operational factor during this period of intensified environmental variability. As we've shared in prior updates, conditions at Juno Beach are the most challenging we’ve seen in 17 years. Elevated surface wave height and powerful nearshore currents—sometimes alternating, sometimes combined—are currently limiting safe and effective exploration.
Recent data confirms the Gulf Stream is shifting closer to Florida’s coastline, driven by warming trends and changing ocean dynamics. This shift brings warmer, more energetic water inshore, resulting in increased algae activity. While naturally occurring, these blooms can wrap around equipment—reducing operational efficiency and requiring periodic intervention to maintain momentum. Fortunately, based on historical patterns and current observations, we expect the algae conditions to last only a few weeks.
