Nairobi County has cracked down on unsanitary food practices in Gikomba Market, shutting several shops and issuing warnings to seven more vendors for poor hygiene.
The operation followed disturbing revelations that some fish vendors were preparing and selling fish near open urinals, triggering major public health fears.
County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria led the enforcement team along Kombo Munyiri Road, where officials discovered filthy, unsafe food preparation zones that put consumers at risk.
