UPDATE | Safety concerns rise as thousands of activists from over 80 countries descend on Egypt for the "Global March to Gaza," a coordinated effort to demand an end to Israel’s blockade on the besieged territory, where conditions have reached famine levels. VOC News reached out to local scholars and activists currently in Cairo, who said they are unable to share updates due to safety concerns. “We cannot give any updates right now. They are cracking down on everyone. Please tell our people to post ‘All eyes on Rafah.’ Make it known globally,” said Sheikh Riyaal Rinquest. The movement is expected to travel by bus to the city of Arish in northern Sinai, from where they will march approximately 30 miles through the desert to the Egyptian side of the Gaza border at Rafah on 15 June.
