Enough Lies, Enough Smears: I Stand By My Work
Let’s get one thing straight I am Tatenda Gondo, an independent, freelance sports journalist, and I owe no one any loyalty except the truth. The recent desperate attempts to paint me as a mercenary, paid to tarnish Zimbabwe Rugby, are pathetic, baseless, and laughable.
I have never, in my career, received a brown envelope or any incentive to report. If I was that kind of journalist the kind who traded integrity for payoffs I’d probably be the richest sports journalist in Zimbabwe by now. But I’m not. I report the truth brutally and fearlessly whether it offends gatekeepers or not.
The facts are simple: I was the journalist who cleaned and processed the damning audio of Losson Mtongwiza threatening and intimidating players, not Ruvimbo Chakoreka. That recording wasn’t leaked out of spite it was released because players are being bullied, silenced, and sacrificed, while corrupt leadership hides behind boardroom power games.
Since publishing the Mtongwiza–Regina Mwanandiwa story, I have been threatened, harassed, and even visited by fake police officers and suspected CIO operatives acting on behalf of Mtongwiza’s crumbling empire. These tactics are straight out of a dictatorship playbook but they don’t scare me. They prove I hit a nerve.
Now let’s talk about the so-called “exposé” by SportsNewsInDepth a clownish, shallow attempt at character assassination that’s clearly part of a coordinated smear campaign. This so called report lacks journalistic credibility, objectivity, or even basic depth. It conveniently ignores explosive facts like the undeniable relationship between Regina Mwanandiwa and a junior under-20 rugby players, and the fact that she shares a child with _______, a man whose name has appeared in multiple questionable incidents.
Ask yourself this why did the writer leave that out? Why is the only follower of the anonymous X account that posted the article Losson Mtongwiza himself? This account was created just this month, purely to sling mud at those of us who are pulling the curtain back on rot within Zimbabwe Rugby.
This is not journalism. It’s cowardice hiding behind a fake handle, and it’s an insult to the profession I’ve served for years.
To those trying to bully me into silence I won't fold, I won’t flinch, and I sure as hell won’t stop. I’ve earned my platform and I’ll continue using it to expose, disrupt, and hold to account anyone who abuses their position in Zimbabwean sport.
