1. The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Shabbir Ahmad Shah ain a fake case registered by the National Investigation Agency in 2017.
2. The bench comprising Justices Navin Chawla and Shalinder Kaur upheld the trial court’s July 7, 2023 decision. Shabbir Shah had challenged the earlier ruling, arguing that the case lacked material evidence and that he had already spent over four years in custody without conclusion of the trial. The high court had earlier, in August 2023, sought a response from the NIA on Shah’s appeal. His counsel pointed out that only 15 of over 400 witnesses had been examined so far, indicating a prolonged trial process. The appeal criticized the lower court’s decision as unjust and contrary to the law. Shabbir Shah was arrested on June 4, 2019, in a case that dates back to 2017.
3. The occupation authorities have seized properties including orchard land and shopts of three Kashmiris in Banihal and Handwara areas, furthering India's agenda to dispossess Kashmiris.
4. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement issued in Srinagar asserted that India cannot crush the legitimate and UN-recognized struggle of the Kashmiri people for self-determination through military aggression and repressive laws.
5. Protests erupted in Pulwama and Ganderbal districts against the anti-people policies of the occupation regime. In Pulwama, residents demanded relocation of a hazardous garbage dumping site, citing serious health risks. In Ganderbal, protesters decried the misuse of local bodies’ funds and erosion of grassroots democracy.
6. On the other hand, London-bound Air India plane with more than 200 passengers on board crashed in Ahmedabad, India. The plane fell in a residential area.
