Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has dismissed the Indian government’s claims of normalcy in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370, calling them a myth amid ongoing oppressive measures against Kashmiris. Addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that Kashmiri Muslims have been systematically prevented from performing Eid prayers at Jamia Masjid and Eidgah in Srinagar for the past seven years. He asked the New Delhi-imposed Lieutenant Governor to clarify why Kashmiri Muslims are being denied the right to fulfill their religious obligations. Mirwaiz also criticized the National Conference-led government in the occupied territory for failing to protect the rights of the people, despite being an elected body. He lamented that Kashmiris are being increasingly marginalized and cornered with each passing day, terming the situation deeply distressing. 2. Meanwhile, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, in a statement in Srinagar, said that the BJP-led Indian government was weaponizing the judiciary to suppress the legitimate political voice of Kashmiris. He condemned the Delhi High Court’s rejection of the bail plea of senior Hurriyat leader and Democratic Freedom Party chairman Shabbir Ahmed Shah. Mihas urged the international community to take cognizance of the ongoing state repression in IIOJK and exert pressure on New Delhi for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. The Democratic Freedom Party also strongly condemned the rejection of its chairman’s bail petition, asserting that India is carrying out a campaign of political vendetta against Shabbir Ahmed Shah and other Hurriyat leaders detained in Tihar Jail. 3. Additionally, the Indian authorities invoked the draconian Public Safety Act against a mentally challenged person, Shahnawaz, in Islamabad district, incarcerating him hundreds of miles away in Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu. PDP leader Iltija Mufti expressed grave concern over the arrest of a disable individual under the black law, highlighting that hundreds of Kashmiri youths have been detained under the PSA since the Pahalgam attack. 4. On the other hand, in Hyderabad, the capital of India’s Telangana state, members of Hindutva groups attacked Muslim youths and forced them to chant the Hindu slogan "Jai Shri Ram." In another disturbing incident in Rajasthan’s Didwana district, Hindu extremists brutally assaulted a Dalit woman and her husband. 5. Also, the US-based human rights organization “Justice For All” has called on the Trump administration to urgently address anti-Muslim incidents in India. The group urged the US Department of State to seriously consider designating India as a “Country of Particular Concern” following recommendations by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.
