*Governor Sakaja Vows Full Support for Kibra Fire Victims.* *Monday, 26th May 2025* Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has announced that all medical bills and additional costs for victims of the deadly fire that claimed eight lives in Kibra Sub-County will be fully covered by the county government. The inferno, which broke out around 5am on Saturday, swept through several homes in the densely populated neighborhood, leaving a trail of destruction and grief. Speaking during a church service in Kibra yesterday, Governor Sakaja assured affected families that they would receive comprehensive support, including burial arrangements. “We will waive all hospital bills, and they will not be charged for anything at the mortuary. We will also cater for burial plans and coffins, even as we help them rebuild,” he said. Governor Sakaja further called for a structured approach to dealing with illegal power connections in informal settlements, linking them to the frequent and deadly fire outbreaks. “Otherwise, we will have a fire every day—and those living there will never even notice. There are models used globally for social connections to power. That is the solution we’re asking for,” he added. The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the City Mortuary, where post-mortem examinations and identification are underway. Authorities have since launched investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
