*Improving Education: Governor Sakaja Flags Off Distribution of ECDE Furniture Across the County*
*Wednesday, 28th May 2025*
Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in Nairobi County have received a significant donation of 8,000 child-sized plastic chairs and 865 trapezium tables from the county government in collaboration with development partners, signing a new chapter in enhancing a conducive learning environment.
Governor Sakaja Johnson, while flagging off the distribution at city hall, emphasised that, the provision of furniture was a significant step in the ongoing commitment to revolutionize education in the Nairobi county, which serves as the foundation of prosperous society.
He said the initiative is not merely about providing furniture, but it is about restoring confidence and hope in the hearts of children by providing a dignified, nurturing, and equitable life start.
He said, “We are not just issuing furniture for our children. We are reaffirming commitment to the children of Nairobi to give them a dignified, nurturing, and equitable start in life. Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) is the most critical stage in any child's educational journey. It lays the foundation for everything that follows."
"Yet for far too long, our ECDE centres have struggled with a lack of basic infrastructure, including something as fundamental as basic decent furniture. We are issuing 8,000 child-sized chairs and trapezium tables across the ECDE centres across the city. It is not a random donation, it is a targeted intervention based on rigorous assessment that sought to identify the centres with the most urgent need. "
He also highlighted the county's school feeding programme, saying it has significantly increased enrolment, reduced absenteeism, and created a deep sense of equality.
"The increased enrolment in primary schools and ECDE centres is a direct effort of the tremendous success of our dishi na county school feeding programme that has accorded dignity, reduced absenteeism and created a sense of fairness across our schools" he added.
