𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐖𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭. On this day we honor Jesus not only as our Savior, but as the Eternal High Priest, the One who offers Himself as both Sacrifice and Mediator between God and humanity. This feast reminds us that Christ's priesthood is perfect, unending, and rooted in love. Though only added to the liturgical calendar in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI, this feast draws on centuries of theological reflection. Christ fulfills the Old Testament priesthood, not by offering animals, but by offering Himself once and for all on the Cross. Jesus' priesthood continues through the Eucharist, and through the ordained priests who act in persona Christi. This day also invites prayers for priests, called to imitate the self-giving love of the Eternal High Priest.
