Today, the Church celebrates a beautiful and profound liturgical feast: Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. ✨ Though not yet universal, this celebration has been approved in countries like the Philippines and reminds us of a central truth of our faith: Jesus is the priest, the altar, and the sacrifice. As Eternal High Priest, Christ offered himself on the altar of the Cross once and for all, and now continually intercedes for us before the Father. His priesthood did not end at Calvary. It continues eternally in heaven and is made present on our altars at every Mass. This feast also renews our understanding of the Eucharist: not as a mere ritual, but as the living memorial of Jesus’ one perfect sacrifice. Every time we attend Mass, we enter into this heavenly liturgy where Christ himself is both Priest and Victim. In this light, we are called to reflect on our own participation in this priestly offering, especially those who are ordained to the ministerial priesthood, but also every baptized believer who is called to offer their lives in union with Christ. Let today be a reminder to pray for our priests, for more vocations, and for a deeper love of the Eucharist.
