John knew Jesus before the Holy Spirit descended upon Him, but a confirmation was still needed. He had to wait for the Holy Spirit to come down for him to know that Jesus was the Messiah.
So, what does this teach us?
It shows that we cannot claim to know anything until it is confirmed by the Spirit. You can study, earn a degree or diploma, and gain knowledge, but until the Holy Spirit confirms it, it is not established as truth.
Now ask yourself: if the Holy Spirit is to descend and sit on your belief system, would He remain just like what He did with Christ?
