As Dr. Hague continued speaking, moved by the moment, something unexpected happened. A man made his way through the packed aisles and stepped onto the platform. There, in front of the whole gathering, he embraced Mr. Judson with tears of joy.
It was Samuel Nott, Jr.—the only other surviving member of that small group of seminary students who, decades earlier, had birthed the vision of American foreign missions. He had been one of the original five who sailed to India, though illness had forced him to return home. Now, after thirty-three years of separation, the two reunited in that powerful and emotional moment, as friends, pioneers, and brothers in Christ.
