The letter hailed from a poor widow in Scotland, who, despite subsisting on only a few shillings per week, regularly contributed to the mission in China. *She expressed that while she could forgo meat, the heathen could not forego the Gospel.* The self-denial inherent in her simple words was palpable, as were the earnest prayers accompanying her modest gifts.
