At least 49 people have died following devastating floods triggered by a fierce cold front sweeping across South Africa, bringing torrential rains and snow.
In the Eastern Cape, the hardest-hit province, flooding has caused widespread destruction—homes washed away, roads closed, and power outages reported.
Among the victims are schoolchildren whose bus was swept into a river in Decoligny village on Tuesday morning. Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane confirmed that six people, including four pupils, the driver, and a conductor, died in the incident. Four others remain missing, with rescue operations still ongoing.
Authorities warn the situation may worsen as bad weather continues to affect parts of the country.
