A protruding belly, or fat around the waistline, is a pointer to insulin resistance and fatty liver disease. The former leads to the latter.
Put simply, if one has a protruding belly, his body works extra hard to fight infections and inflammation.
*Why?*
- Because insulin resistance, which leads to fatty liver, suppresses one’s immune system.
- Because the liver plays a vital role that includes removal of toxins. And the more its cells are replaced by fat cells, the more detox and its other functions that include making of hormones is adversely affected. The liver makes the active form of vitamin D (most critical for our immunity), as well as sex hormones, viz. oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, etc.
