Understanding the Difference Between Gay and Bisexual 🏳️‍🌈 In many African communities, people often mix up the words Gay and bisexual. These two words do not mean the same thing. Learning the difference helps us show respect and support for others. 🔹 Gay A Gay is a man who is only attracted to other men. He is not interested in women in a romantic or sexual way. 🔹 Bisexual A bisexual person is someone who is attracted to more than one gender. This usually means being attracted to both men and women. Some bisexual people may also be attracted to people who do not identify as male or female. 🧠 Important to understand Because of homophobia and social pressure, some gay may be in relationships with women. Some are dating or married to women even though they are only attracted to men. This does not mean they are bisexual or confused. In many cases, they are doing what they feel they must in order to stay safe or accepted in their families and communities. Also, being in a relationship with someone of a different gender doesn't erase a bisexual person's identity. If they identify as bisexual, they are still bisexual, regardless of who they are dating or married to. ❤️ Why this matters Using the correct word helps people feel seen and respected. A gay is not secretly interested in women. A bisexual person is not greedy or confused. These are valid identities and should be understood as such.
