He worked closely with Dr. Ibrahim Bangura to support young people after the Ebola outbreak. They started a skills training program in solar energy. This program focused on helping young people in rural areas. It gave them practical knowledge and directly involved their communities. Unlike most government programs, this one was funded by Dr. Bangura’s personal support and help from groups like Ignite Power Sierra Leone and Barefoot Women’s Solar College. Dr. Bangura worked without pay. He and Macauley believed solar energy could create jobs and bring electricity to villages. One of the training centers was in Port Loko District, Koya Chiefdom, Konta Line. There, participants learned that private groups were supporting the program and creating new chances for young people. Many trainees came from "Ataya Bases," which are popular meeting spots for youth. They received training that helped them become more employable. People like Alimamy Keita, Mabinty Kamara, and Mohamed Massaquoi said the training gave them hope for further education and future jobs.
