Look, I understand the panic that comes with ‘marking time’ and measuring your achievements for the year.
It’s worse when you get to see the accomplishments of others on your social media feeds, with or without your consent.
I don’t judge you.
Envy is an almost inescapable part of the human condition.
It was only easier for the previous generation to avoid it because there was no social media to make them aware that Brother Gbolahan had just built his third house in Ikoyi with the #goddidit caption or #whatgodcannotdodoesnotexist
Nigerian God for the win ‘cause apparently He built the house, thanks to a rababa here and a shababa there.
Anyway…
Tomorrow marks the 6th month of the year and many will be reminded that 2025 is almost half gone.
I used to be in this position way back in 2012 as a brilliant but broke Website Designer based in Benin City, Nigeria.
But then the scales began to fall from my eyes because of something I read in Malcolm Gladwell’s book - Outliers.
I’m not necessarily recommending the book. I didn’t even finish it.
That takeaway did it for me and I shut the book, never to return.
I realised that in this game of prosperity, success, wealth or whatever we call it these days, someone had pushed me into the wrong bus.
CONDUCTOR, DROP ME!
