I was chill and calm until she denied three people infront of me then my heart started beating so fast.
I just told God, “As I slide my passport through the window, it is not following me back home today “
The white lady was very calm and she gives you time to talk.
My interview was scheduled for 11:00am but I got interviewed a few minutes to 2pm
Me Good afternoon
VO: Good Afternoon ,how are you?
Me: I’m fine
Me: I handed over my i20 and passport
Vo: Tell me about the program you are going to pursue
Me: The Master of Arts program at Ohio University is a 1 year full time program and it curriculum comprises of 36 credit hours. My research is going to focus on how macroeconomic indicators affect manufacturing sector performance in emerging economies. At Ohio University I’ll be working under professor Roberto Duncan who’s research on inflation forecasting and business cycle dynamics matches my research interest. After completing the program, I’ll return to Ghana to take on a strategic leadership role in my uncle’s Cement company called xxx where I currently work as a financial analyst. I will be leading the economic, financial and investment planning department of my Uncles company.
Vo: Do you have a Bachelor’s Degree?
Me: Yes I do have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Ghana where I studied economics and theatre arts. My economic course work in econometrics, micro and macroeconomics and also quantitative methods for economics gave me a strong foundation in economic theory and quantitative skills which prepared me for professional and academic environment and also deepened my interest in economics.

VO: How are you funding your education?
Me: I have been awarded a graduate recruitment scholarship which covers my tuition and my deficit is going to be sponsored by my uncle in the person of xxx who earns an annual income of xxx(when I mentioned the amount my sponsor makes annually she raised her head and opened her eyes wide in shock 😳 , the she asked what does he do)
Me: He owns one of the largest mining companies in west Africa called xxx and a cement factory called xxx where I currently work as a financial analyst. He is also the brother to xxx(as I was talking she was busy typing, I had a feeling she was searching online for my Sponsor)
VO: Has he sponsored anyone from your family before in the US before?
Me : No, but he sponsored my brother 5 years ago to China University of Mines and Technology where he studied mining engineering. And after completing the program my brother returned to Ghana and is currently working in my uncle’s mining company as a mining engineer.
VO: Has your uncle traveled outside Ghana before?
Me: Yes, he has been to Germany, France , UK other European countries .
VO: Have you traveled outside Ghana before
Me: No, this is my first international travel and it is solely for educational purpose.
