Are you people aware that Moi’s henchmen had parcelled out the entire Karura Forest among themselves and that they already had titles for various parcels, declaring it prime real estate? It took the courage of Wangari Maathai and the University of Nairobi Students who invaded the forest and kicked them out. It was a day of blood and fire, but in the end the people prevailed. The same spirit needs to be rekindled to save our national heritage. We cannot sit back and watch as Ngong forest is being decimated. The twin forests of Ngong and Karura are the lungs of the city of Nairobi and letting them go would be a betrayal of past generations who preserved it and future generations who will need it. Let us many people as possible attend the public participation and declare that there is no negotiation about encroaching on our forests. The greed of the few must not become the misery of the masses.
