Koketso Sekhu, the Gauteng Provincial Education Officer of the Commission is currently leading an outreach initiative at the Kameeldrift Community Hall in Pretoria under the banner of the Information Resource Centre on GBVF Dialogue Programme. As part of the engagement, Sekhu shares information on the Commission’s role in promoting gender equality and monitoring the state’s response to Gender-Based violence and Femicide (GBVF), including oversight of such cases, related policies, and the implementation of the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on GBVF, with a strong focus on its six pillars. A key outcome of the youth dialogue that unfolded during the session is the emergence of critical reflections on the silence, fear, and stigma that many young people face when reporting GBVF incidents. Participants raise concerns about the lack of accessible, youth-friendly support services and call for more education on consent, rights, and accountability.
