"Please help him. He is a superman." That’s what Suraj Vidhate said as his father, Chandrakant, was finally pulled from the rubble. On Sunday evening, a decades-old bridge over the Indrayani river near Talegaon, Pune, collapsed under the weight of over 150 people. What was once a weekend destination became a site of chaos and devastation. Families watched helplessly as loved ones were swept away or buried under twisted steel and concrete. Chandrakant was one of them. Trapped for over an hour, seriously injured. But even in that moment, he held on to three others and helped them to safety, before rescuers could even reach him. Across the river, his son Suraj waited in anguish, holding back tears. "My father was holding on to three people and helped them to safety, even as he was stuck himself. He saved them before he could be rescued," he told TOI. Chandrakant was eventually pulled out by NDRF teams and rushed to a hospital. As officials warn the toll may rise, what remains most clear is this: In the wreckage, it was courage that held people together. #pune #indrayaniriver #bridgecollapse #reallifehero #inspiringindia #everydayheroes #courageincrisis #disasterresponse #humanspirit [Pune, Indrayani River, Bridge Collapse, Real-life hero, Inspiring India, Disaster rescue, Everyday heroes, Survivor story, Acts of bravery]
