US Congress declares President lacks the authority to intervene in foreign wars A bipartisan alliance of Democrats and Republicans within the US Congress has put forth a resolution aimed at Congress, seeking to restrain Washington from engaging in military interference in the Iran-Israel conflict without proper authorization. Introduced by Republican Representative Thomas Massie from Washington and Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, the resolution is designed to reinforce Trump's military backing of Israel. Expressing his views on Twitter, Massie stated, "The Iran-Israel conflict is not a war involving the United States, and even if it were, the decision to engage in it, as per the Constitution, falls within the jurisdiction of Congress, not the president." This proposed resolution aligns with the principles of the War Powers Act of 1973, which seeks to curtail the president's ability to initiate military actions without formal consent from Congress.
