In a media briefing in Bulawayo this Friday, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana highlighted the on-going efforts including rapporteur training and establishment a Command Centre in Bulawayo. “The steering committee of the Gukurahundi Community Engagement Outreach Programme is actively engaging traditional chiefs from Matabeleland in Bulawayo today. This crucial meeting aims to finalise logistical arrangements for the imminent rollout of the community outreach programme. Key discussions during the committee’s deliberations include a thorough review of feedback gathered from awareness campaigns conducted in both Matabeleland North and South provinces,” he said. “This feedback is vital for refining the programme’s methodology and ensuring it resonates with the affected communities. Further advancing the initiative, the final training session for rapporteurs is scheduled for June 14, 2025. These trained individuals will play a pivotal role in meticulously documenting testimonies during the upcoming public hearings, ensuring that every voice is heard and preserved. Following this, the National Council of Chiefs will convene on June 15, 2025, to finalise comprehensive operational plans and provide essential guidance on the community engagement process, leveraging their deep understanding of local dynamics. To support and coordinate the extensive process, a dedicated command centre has been established at the First Mutual Building in Bulawayo. This facility will serve as the central hub for the programme, streamlining operations and communication,” added Mangwana. .....
