Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, said the remains were identified as those of Erick Tonderai Nyakapanga (65), who had been missing since April.
“The remains were positively identified by Richard Nyakapanga (55), a relative, after three women gathering firewood stumbled upon them around 7am,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka. “The skeleton was found intact along with the deceased’s clothing.”
Nyakapanga reportedly left his home in the early hours of April 26 at around 3am without informing his family. He had last been seen at home with his wife, Kerina Nyawera Nyakapanga, before departing under unclear circumstances and never returned.
The matter was reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Ruwangwe, who attended the scene and launched an investigation.
Authorities are yet to establish the cause of death.
