*Government Allocates US$44 Million to Strengthen Healthcare Infrastructure* The Government of Zimbabwe has set aside US$44 million to improve the country’s healthcare infrastructure and services, with a portion of the funds already used to import essential medicines, Health and Child Care Minister Dr. Douglas Mombeshora told Parliament on Wednesday. By Hurumende News Hub Addressing lawmakers, Dr. Mombeshora said the government has so far utilised US$11 million to procure vital medical supplies through approved companies contracted to import medications needed by hospitals and clinics across the country. "In a bid to ensure transparency and efficiency, the government has implemented a Digital Tracking System to monitor the movement of medicines from community health officers to clinics, district hospitals, and referral centres," said the minister. Dr. Mombeshora also revealed that facelift projects have already been carried out in 25 district clinics, which have received adequate supplies of medicines. These improvements, he said, are meant to enhance service delivery and provide communities with access to quality healthcare. Looking ahead, the remaining funds will be directed towards constructing new health facilities in underserved areas. The minister emphasised that these health centres will be fitted with modern medical equipment and staffed with qualified healthcare professionals. “This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to improve healthcare accessibility and outcomes for all Zimbabweans,” said Dr. Mombeshora. The government's investment in health comes at a critical time, as the country continues to tackle challenges related to inadequate infrastructure, drug shortages, and limited access to care in rural communities.
