The EDTA Standing Committee, from Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture (EDTA) Directorate, convened at the Kariega Council Chambers to deliberate on eight strategic agenda items focused on driving inclusive economic growth. Key discussions included support packages for entrepreneurs operating within the informal economy, the revival of the municipal film office to foster industry diversification and creative sector inclusion, and the hosting of international events to boost destination marketing—repositioning Nelson Mandela Bay as a premier hub for sports, investment, and tourism.
Further items addressed the refurbishment of business hubs in township areas to enable the rollout of enterprise development and incubation programmes, bringing essential support directly to where entrepreneurs operate.
All items received unanimous support from the Councillors present, who called on Acting Executive Director Mr Wandisile Makwabe to prioritise implementation. This engagement reflects the municipality’s firm commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and opportunity-driven economy—ensuring that economic development efforts reach all corners of the Bay and contribute meaningfully to long-term growth and prosperity.
