*Egg Allergy*
🥚 *What Is Egg Allergy?*
An immune reaction to proteins in eggs, commonly *egg whites* (but sometimes yolks too). More common in children.
⚠️ *Symptoms:*
- Skin: Hives, rashes, itching
- GI: Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain
- Respiratory: Sneezing, coughing, wheezing
- Severe: *Anaphylaxis* (life-threatening reaction)
🧬 *Causes:*
Reaction to proteins like *ovalbumin* (in egg white).
📉 *Can it go away?*
Yes – many children outgrow it by age 5–7.
🛑 *Foods to Avoid:*
- Obvious: Eggs, omelets, cakes, mayonnaise
- Hidden: Some pasta, ice cream, vaccines (e.g. yellow fever)
✅ *Egg Replacements:*
- Applesauce
- Mashed banana
- Commercial egg replacers (for baking)
🩺 *Diagnosis:*
- Skin prick test
- Blood test (IgE)
- Oral food challenge (in hospital setting)
💉 *Treatment:*
- Avoid eggs
- Antihistamines for mild reactions
- Epinephrine (EpiPen) for severe cases
