SELFISH, NEGLIGENT DRIVERS STILL THE ROOT CAUSE OF ROAD TRAGEDIES, SAYS IGP - LOKMAN ADAM In light of the growing number of fatal road accidents in Malaysia, I am in agreement with the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain’s statement as reported that, “no amount of government enforcement or awareness campaigns will make a difference if drivers continue to ignore basic road rules. The government's efforts will be in vain if motorists continue to break traffic laws. Accidents will persist as long as drivers act carelessly and selfishly. Despite continued enforcement and public education efforts by authorities, the ultimate responsibility lies with the drivers themselves in order to prevent devastating collision like the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway earlier today, which claimed the lives of 15 students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI).” The tragedy occurred when a bus carrying 42 students, along with a driver and assistant, collided with an MPV. Among the MPV's occupants were a couple and their two young children, aged six and three. Thirteen students died at the scene, while two more succumbed to injuries in hospital. Four individuals were injured. This horrific incident comes less than a month after nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel lost their lives in another tragic accident on May 13, 2025. Despite such harrowing losses, some road users continue to behave recklessly, seemingly unmoved by the consequences. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and only through the collective commitment of all road users can the rising toll of fatalities be stopped. Until then, preventable tragedies unfortunately will continue to haunt Malaysian roads. #lokmannooradamofficial #umnomalaysia #barisannasional #soladiritinajibrazak #zahidhamidi #malaysiamadani #anwaribrahim #sekretariatmediaperpaduan #haji2025 #alamshahtravel https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=751270397428103&id=100076354482544
