Yes — the system is broken. Yes — schools failed to teach many of us what we need to thrive. Yes — some teachers didn’t care. Some curriculums were outdated. Some lessons were useless. But at some point… this excuse expires. You have a smartphone. You have Wi-Fi or bundles. You have YouTube, Google, Coursera, edX, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, podcasts, free e-books, free communities. You have access your parents could only dream of. What you don’t have? Discipline. It’s not the system holding you back anymore; it’s your choices. You’ll watch TikTok for 4 hours but won’t watch a 20-minute tutorial on Google Sheets. You’ll binge a Netflix series in a weekend but won’t finish a free online course that could change your life. You’ll spend KSh 800 on a weekend out but won’t invest KSh 800 in learning a digital skill. Then you say “the system failed us.” No. You’re failing yourself now. In 2025, ignorance is a choice. If you want to learn something, you can. If you want to build a skill, you can. If you want to escape poverty, you can start with what’s already in your hand. But if you want to sit and blame the government, the curriculum, your high school teacher from 15 years ago go ahead. Just know this: excuses don’t pay rent. The system is flawed. We all know that. But Wi-Fi is undefeated, if you use it right. Get learning. Or get left behind.
